Bullshark Games built Ancient Paws around an archaeologist dog in an Indiana-Jones-style hat, exploring ancient ruins that draw on Central and South American civilizations rather than a real-world setting most players would recognise. Stone-block symbols line a 5x4 grid, and wins are calculated across 14 fixed paylines. Ten regular symbols pay out: five are the standard 10 through A card ranks, while the other five take the form of maps, compasses, lamps, hats and binoculars. Royal five-of-a-kind wins pay 0.3 to 0.5 times the stake, and the themed high-pay symbols reach 0.8 to 2 times the stake at the same count. The centerpiece mechanic is a pair of expanding wilds. If two or more expanding wilds end up occupying the same reel, they merge into a single fully stacked wild and their multiplier values combine. A separate Multiplier Adder symbol can boost any expanding wilds already in view by adding one to three extra multiplier steps, worth x2 up to x100 each, before turning into a regular wild itself.

The Trail of Treats bonus round is unlocked by landing three, four or five scatter symbols, handing out a starting batch of 8, 10 or 12 spins depending on which scatter count triggered it; hitting the round via five scatters guarantees at least one expanding wild is already present on the opening spin. During the round, expanding wilds stay on the reels for the entire feature instead of clearing after each spin, shifting to a new random position every time the reels turn, and any that overlap still merge and combine multipliers as they would in the base game. Landing further scatters inside the round adds one extra spin apiece.
