Elk Studios builds a birthday-party theme into Birthday!, bringing back familiar guest characters from its other releases — a bartender who used to headline his own game, a ship's captain, an electrically charged regular and a pair of blooper-reel favourites — over a funky, R&B-flavoured soundtrack that occasionally interrupts itself with random celebrity birthday shout-outs. The game runs on a five-reel, three-row grid with 178 fixed paylines, taking bets from 0.10 to 50 per spin. Volatility is rated high at 7 out of 10 on Elk's own scale, the RTP is 96.3%, hit frequency comes in at 16.7%, and the top win is capped at 5,000x the stake.

The paytable is deliberately compact: three balloon colours — red, green and blue — cover the low end, while birthday-branded logos, roses and drinks make up the three premium symbols, with five birthday logos across a line worth 15x the bet. A birthday cake acts as the standard Wild, and two further Wild types are reserved exclusively for the bonus rounds.

Randomly, a doorbell rings mid-spin to open one of five different Happy Spins respin variants, each brought by a different guest character. One respin runs until a set number of wins land, somewhere between three and five. Another continues until a payline pays out with five matching symbols. A third locks a chosen symbol in place as sticky and keeps respinning for as long as more copies of it keep appearing. A fourth respins until a specific pre-selected symbol produces any win at all. The last continues until a single spin returns a win worth 15x the bet or more.

Free Spins are triggered the same way, by the doorbell announcing a young guest with a balloon, and award 10 spins that can retrigger repeatedly to build into a much longer run. Inside the round, two extra Wild types not seen in the base game come into play: one drops up to three Wilds that land sticky and stay locked on the grid for the rest of the round, while the other places as many as three Walking Wilds that shift one reel left each spin until they exit the grid. Both extra Wild types can also turn up during the randomly triggered Happy Spins.

Birthday! released in October 2017 and remains built around its rotating cast of guest respins rather than a single headline bonus round, spreading its high-volatility swings across five different paths to a win.
