Book of Sam

Elk Studios carries its recurring troll trio into a book-format release for the first time: patriarch Sam, married to Sandra, with daughter Maggie rounding out the family for Book of Sam. It stages the action on a fictional Vegas strip built from Egyptian-styled hotels and casino signage rather than a literal ancient setting, with a funk-driven soundtrack running under the reels that keeps the tone closer to the family's earlier neon-lit releases than a conventional artefact-hunting theme.

Play takes place on a 5x3 grid with 10 paylines, with two ways to spin: a standard Normal mode running stakes from 0.20 to 100, and a Bonus mode reached through the X-iter menu, which carries five separate feature-buy options. Numbered and lettered card symbols form the low-pay end of the table, needing at least three of a kind for a payout of 5-9x the stake, while the family themselves — Sam, Sandra, Maggie and a cat symbol — sit in the premium tier, paying out from 10x up to 500x the stake for five matching symbols and requiring only two to register a win. A book symbol serves as both wild and scatter, substituting for any paying symbol and carrying Sam's own payout value when it completes a line by itself.

Each troll can trigger their own bonus round, called an Electric Treat, whenever a win lands using two or more of their own symbol. Sam's version awards respins with a sticky book symbol, which becomes an expanding wild if the Treat fires during the free spins round; Sandra's grants respins carrying a multiplier; and Maggie's clears low-paying symbols, cats and her own symbol from the grid before redropping new ones, leaving any already-expanded symbols untouched.

Landing three, four or five book scatters in Normal mode opens the free spins round, awarding 8 spins along with one, two or three expanding symbols respectively — regular pay symbols chosen at random that grow to cover their reel once enough of them land together. Further book symbols appearing during the round add more free spins and increase the expanding-symbol count up to a maximum of five. Electric Treats can also fire mid-round: Sandra's multiplier carries across spins for as long as a Treat stays active, resetting between them, while a Sam Treat during free spins turns its respin book into an expanding wild just as it does in the base game.

The X-iter menu prices its five options by risk: 2x the stake for a single spin with a better chance of reaching the bonus game naturally, 10x for a guaranteed Electric Treat, 50x for one spin where every symbol on the grid is expanding, 100x for guaranteed entry into free spins, and 500x for guaranteed free spins where every symbol expands from the start.

Book of Sam runs at 94% RTP, with an alternate 87% configuration available, alongside high volatility and a maximum win of 10,000x the stake. It released in January 2023.
