Elk Studios roots Coba in Mesoamerican jungle scenery, naming the game after an actual Mayan city on Mexico's Yucatán peninsula and building the reels around ancient stonework, dense foliage and a pyramid rising in the background, with a drum-driven soundtrack that shifts into a heavier synth line during large wins.

Wins form through a cluster pays system on a 7x7 grid: five or more matching symbols connected to each other anywhere on the board pay out, after which the win clears and new symbols drop in to fill the gaps, repeating for as long as fresh clusters keep appearing. Wins land at a hit frequency of 38.9%.

Tokens in green, brown and blue form the low-pay tier, worth 0.1-0.15x the bet at five symbols and climbing to 4-10x for a cluster of 15 or more. A gold skull joins red, blue and green gems as the higher payers, worth 0.3-1x for five matches or 15-500x once a cluster hits 15 or above.

Every winning cluster fills a four-level Snake Meter, and once a win sequence ends, reaching level 1, 2, 3 or 4 releases 1, 2, 3 or 6 snakes onto the grid respectively. A snake behaves like a moving cluster at least five symbols long, taking on the symbol type of whatever it first crosses; eating matching symbols lets it grow and form or join a winning cluster, while crossing a different symbol type — or its own body — kills it before the win evaluation. Where two snakes cross paths, that position turns into a x2 multiplier wild, doubling again if another snake crosses the same spot, and multiple multiplier wilds inside one cluster multiply their values together rather than adding them.

An X-iter menu offers five ways to buy into the feature directly: Pray to Quetzalcoatl releases three snakes on reaching level 1 and level 2 for 2x the bet; Viper Active starts the game at level 1 with one snake active for 10x; Boa Constrictor, at 25x, starts at level 1 with longer snakes; Quetzalcoatl, for 100x, starts at level 1 and releases three snakes at both level 1 and level 2; and Coba!, the priciest at 500x, drops straight into level 4 with six snakes released immediately.

Coba is rated medium volatility on Elk Studios' own 6-out-of-10 scale, returns an RTP of 95%, and pays a maximum of 25,000x the bet on stakes between 0.20 and 50 per spin.
