Elk Studios leans into an eccentric, otherworldly concept for J-POP, framing the reels as a portal used by visitors from another world who collect objects from Earth for their own rituals. Bright, cheerful visuals, stacks of speakers and scattered musical instruments give the game an upbeat, almost carnival energy that matches its bouncy soundtrack.

Play begins on a 6x4 grid offering 4,096 ways to win, using an avalanche mechanic where winning symbols clear from the grid and new ones drop in from above to fill the gaps. Each avalanche also adds an extra row to the grid, up to a maximum of eight rows, at which point the ways to win climb as high as 262,144. Avalanches keep running until a spin settles with no further wins, after which the grid resets to its base 6x4 shape for the next spin.

J-POP's paytable runs from J through A as the low-value symbols, four candy icons in the middle tier, and four character symbols as the top payers; six matching low symbols pay 0.2x the bet, mid-tier sixes pay 0.25x-0.5x, and six matching top symbols pay between 1x and 5x. Three separate wild types appear across the reels: a standard wild, a Wild Box that seeds a random number of wilds onto empty or paying positions when it contributes to a win, and a walking wild that shifts one space in a set direction after every win, gaining +1 to its multiplier and taking on the size of whatever symbol it moves into.

A Grid Flip symbol swaps reels 1 and 6, 2 and 5, and 3 and 4 with each other once no further wins remain, then turns into a wild itself, while a Big Drop symbol crushes any small pay symbols beneath it as it falls before also converting into a wild; if both appear together, the Grid Flip resolves first.

Landing scatters awards free spins on a sliding scale: three scattered symbols bring 10 free spins, four bring 12, five bring 15, and six bring 20. Walking wilds carry over into the round and persist between spins, and the feature starts with the grid capped at four rows rather than the base game's six, climbing back up toward eight rows as winning spins and walking wild movement raise that ceiling. The round can retrigger under the same scatter conditions that unlock it originally.
