About Mine Defender

ELK Studios trades in the traditional prospector for a small band of robot-hunting mining soldiers in Mine Defender, borrowing more from arcade shoot-em-ups than from typical treasure-digging slots. The digger at the bottom of the screen opens fire on invading machines as they close in from above, all rendered in pixel art set to a synthwave score that leans firmly into retro sci-fi territory.

The 5x6 grid runs on scatter pays rather than fixed lines: landing seven or more matching symbols anywhere on the board forms a win. Every paying symbol is a gemstone, and size roughly tracks value - seven matching stones return between 0.2x and 1x the bet, climbing up to a 5x-to-100x range once fifteen or more line up in a single hit. A wild turns up now and then to cover for any of the regular gem symbols.

Each round opens with the grid full, the multiplier back at zero, and the on-screen Hero holding a single shot. Feature icons get swept up and swapped for fresh symbols as wins clear and the board refills from above, and that cycle keeps going for as long as new wins keep forming.

Robotic enemies carrying between one and three lives can turn up as the grid refills, kicking off a Hero Drop where the Hero fires on them and strips away a life with each hit; fallen enemies get replaced before that spin's wins are counted. Once the evaluation is done, whichever enemies have reached the bottom row strike back at the Hero, costing it a life before being removed, while the survivors shuffle one row nearer unless blocked. A round with no wins clears every pay symbol for a fresh drop, some bottom-row enemies self-destruct and take their whole row with them, and the run ends once the Hero has no lives left.

Feature symbols carry most of the extra mechanics: some add lives or shots to the Hero, up to three of each, Spread turns a single shot into three projectiles, and Bonus Scatters build toward the bonus trigger. Coin icons pay their listed value scaled by the running multiplier, Multiplier icons raise that total further, Mystery drops in an enemy, a feature or a wild, and a more aggressive set joins them - Airstrike hits a spread of enemies, Laser wipes a column, Pushback shoves the enemy line back, and Bombs strike everything on the board.

Larger 2x2 Mini Bosses can show up during ordinary play, carrying ten lives and a trophy coin that pays out, multiplier included, once beaten. Three Bonus Scatters open the Mass Attack round on a circular, spoke-patterned board, carrying forward any multiplier, shot count and spread earned earlier and resetting the Hero to three lives; it runs until the Hero goes down or the game escalates further. After fifty enemies have fallen in total, across either the main game or Mass Attack, a Final Boss appears on a fresh 5x6 board: a 3x3 target with fifty lives and its own trophy coin, fighting until one side or the other is finished.

An X-iter menu lets players skip ahead for a price: 3x buys a round with better-than-triple odds of reaching a bonus, 10x guarantees a Hero Drop battle, 50x guarantees enemies plus a Hero already carrying three shots, 100x drops straight into the bonus round, and 500x does the same with ammo already maxed.

Mine Defender returns 94% regardless of which X-iter route gets used, rated medium volatility, with stakes from 0.20 to 100 a spin and a maximum win of 10,000 times the bet.
