Bang Bang Games sets Mutant Trawlers on a poisoned lake beside a leaking nuclear plant, turning its resident fish into the mutated, glowing creatures that fill the reels. The grotesque, half-comic horror style leans away from the clean blue-water fishing slots common in the genre, giving the game its own identity within the fish-and-cash subgenre it belongs to.

Reels are arranged 5x3 across 243 ways, with wins formed by matching symbols connecting across adjacent reels read from the left. Jack-through-Ace ranks fill out the low end of the paytable, while the premium tier is made up of a barrel, a glowing green icon, a pair of goggles and a radiation detector; a radiation-sign wild substitutes for everything except the scatter and the Mutant Cash symbol.

Mutant Cash symbols can land anywhere on the grid, and fishing boats occasionally appear above a reel. A boat sitting above a reel that holds Mutant Cash collects the cash and upgrades into a Trawler carrying a x2 multiplier, which then triggers a Trawler Respin. Each Trawler sweeps up every cash prize across the whole reel set, its multiplier climbing by +1 with every extra respin, and new boats landing during this sequence can themselves become Trawlers inheriting the current multiplier. The respins keep going until a spin collects no further cash; ways wins pay throughout but aren't touched by the Trawler multiplier.

Three, four or five mushroom-cloud scatters in the base game award 12, 15 or 20 Meltdown Free Spins. Before the round starts, players can gamble on a wheel for more: landing the green segment adds spins up to a cap of 20, while red sends them straight back to the base game empty-handed. The Trawler multiplier carries over between spins during Meltdown Free Spins rather than resetting, though the feature itself cannot be retriggered.
