Worked example
You deposit £100 and get a £100 bonus with 35x wagering on the bonus. You need to bet 35 × £100 = £3,500. At £1 a spin that is 3,500 spins, about 7 hours at 500 spins an hour. On a 96% RTP slot the house keeps about 4% of what you bet, so clearing it costs about £140 on average. You started with £200 of balance, so on average you would finish with about £60, which is £40 less than you deposited.
The same offer at 35x deposit plus bonus needs £7,000 of bets and costs about £280 on average, more than the whole balance. Which amount the multiple applies to matters as much as the multiple.
How the calculator works
- Wager needed = wagering multiple × the amount it applies to, divided by how much of each bet counts.
- Spins = wager needed ÷ your bet per spin. Time = spins ÷ spins per hour.
- Average cost = wager needed × (100% − RTP). It is the long-run average, not a prediction of one session.
- Average balance at the end = deposit + bonus − average cost, and never below zero.

Frequently asked questions
- How do I calculate a wagering requirement?
- Multiply the wagering multiple by the amount it applies to. A £50 bonus with 40x wagering on the bonus needs £2,000 of bets. If the terms say 40x deposit plus bonus and you deposited £50 for a £50 bonus, it is 40 × £100 = £4,000.
- What is a good wagering requirement?
- Lower is better. Under 20x is generous, 30x to 40x is common, and above 50x is hard to clear. Wagering on the bonus only is better than the same multiple on deposit plus bonus, because it applies to a smaller amount.
- How much does it cost to clear a bonus?
- On average, the amount you wager times the house edge. At 96% RTP the house edge is 4%, so £3,500 of wagering costs about £140 on average. If that is more than the bonus, the bonus is worth less than nothing on average.
- Do all games count towards wagering?
- Not always. Slots usually count 100%, while table and live games often count 10% to 20% or nothing at all. If a game counts 50%, you have to bet twice as much on it to clear the same requirement. Set "Game counts" in the calculator to match the terms.
- Can I withdraw before the wagering is finished?
- Usually you can withdraw your own deposit only by giving up the bonus, and with a sticky bonus the bonus itself can never be withdrawn. Check the casino's terms, or read our guide to sticky and non-sticky bonuses.
