What are free spins?

Free spins means two different things. A free spins bonus is a casino offer that gives you a set number of spins on a named slot without paying for them, usually at a fixed bet. Free spins are also a slot feature: a bonus round you trigger in the game, often by landing three or more scatter symbols.

Key facts

  • Casino free spins have a fixed value per spin (often 10p or 20c) and usually work on one or a few named slots.
  • Winnings from casino free spins are often paid as bonus money with a wagering requirement.
  • Wager-free spins pay winnings as cash, but are rarer and usually fewer.
  • In-game free spins are part of the slot itself and their value comes from your own bet.
  • Free spins often expire within days of being credited.

Terms to check on a free spins offer

Check the value of each spin, which games they work on, how long you have to use them, whether winnings carry a wagering requirement, and whether there is a cap on what you can withdraw from them. Twenty spins at 10p are worth £2 of play, so the terms on the winnings matter more than the headline number.
