Imperial Fruits: 5 Lines is a proper old-school slot that proves you don't need hundreds of paylines, complicated features or fancy animations to have some serious winning potential. This is the sort of game that reminds me of the traditional fruit machines, with cherries, grapes, lemons, red sevens and those classic spinning reels.
At $2 a spin in demo mode, the simplicity of the game really stands out. There are only five paylines, so you're not constantly getting tiny wins that barely cover your stake. Instead, you're looking for those bigger combinations that can make a single spin much more rewarding.
The expanding crown wild is a brilliant little addition because it can fill an entire reel and help connect several winning lines at once. The red sevens are particularly interesting because they're the highest-paying regular symbol, and combining them with expanding wilds can create some substantial payouts.
What I like most about this slot is that it doesn't rely on a complicated bonus round to deliver its bigger wins. Everything happens within the main game. It can certainly have quiet periods where the balance drops without much happening, but that's part of the traditional fruit machine experience.
With a published maximum potential of 820x your stake, there's much more to this simple-looking slot than you might initially expect. It's a classic fruit machine with a modern twist and enough potential to make even the most ordinary-looking spin interesting.
The bonus
Imperial Fruits: 5 Lines doesn't have a traditional free spins bonus, but that doesn't mean it lacks winning potential. The main features are built directly into the base game, which is exactly what makes this slot feel so old-school. There are no bonus buys, complicated multipliers or lengthy feature rounds to wait for.
Instead, the excitement comes from landing the right combination of symbols on a single spin. The expanding crown wild is probably the most interesting feature because it can appear on reels two, three and four, replacing regular symbols to help create winning combinations.
When the crown expands, it covers the entire reel, giving you the possibility of connecting several paylines at the same time. There's also the Gold Star scatter, which can award up to 100x your stake when five appear, and the Diamond Star scatter, which can award 20x for landing three.
At a $2 demo stake, those scatter payouts alone could theoretically reach $200 and $40 respectively. I particularly like the fact that scatter wins can pay regardless of the paylines, adding another opportunity to win without needing a traditional bonus feature.
Of course, landing the bigger combinations isn't guaranteed, and the smaller wins can feel disappointing between the better hits. However, the possibility of connecting multiple expanding wilds with high-paying symbols gives this simple five-line game a surprising amount of potential.
It's a great example of how a traditional fruit machine can deliver interesting features without losing its original charm.
