The action in The Godfather plays out inside Don Vito Corleone's office, a scene styled after the 1972 mafia film it's licensed from, complete with plush furniture, dim lighting and the desk where the boss runs his business. The recognisable puppet-string emblem appears above the reels, though the symbol set stays limited rather than crowding the screen with extra characters.

Nine regular symbols make up the paytable. Four card ranks from ten through ace serve as the low pays, worth 10x to 15x the bet for a full line of five, while four thematic premiums — a horse, a glass of liquor paired with a cigar, an olive oil tin, and Don Vito himself — pay between 75x and 500x for the same five-symbol line. The book symbol substitutes for any regular pay symbol outside of its bonus-triggering role.

Three, four or five book symbols set off the bonus round at increasing strength: three award 8 free spins plus one expanding symbol and the Hold & Win feature, four award 10 free spins with the same additions, and five award 12.

Once Hold & Win begins, every symbol other than the triggering books is cleared from the grid, and only book symbols are allowed to land for the rest of the round.
